ERYKAH BADU “FALL IN LOVE” IN-STUDIO PERFORMANCE

A while back, Erykah called me around 2:30 in the morning to come shoot her wrapping up a track in the studio. I was exhausted and about to go to sleep, but when she called, I knew it would to be dope, laced ‘em up and drove downtown. The smooth ballad she was performing that night turned out to be “Fall in Love (Your Funeral),” off her latest release, “New Amerykah Part Two.”

Jay Elec was knocked out on the couch for the greater part of the performance. Supanova was in the studio vibing out. The way the video came out was super dope; the hat Erykah was wearing intermittently shaded her face, and lent the song an intimate, wistful, yet mysterious feel. These are the moments that I live for as a music lover and a filmmaker: a late night turning into an early morning, take-out plates stacked up all over the studio, people knocked out on the couch, and yet the beat is still going.
